Mother Hamilton met her great master in 1925 when he was traveling to Seattle on his tour through the United States. She was from the Midwest (Duluth, Minnesota), brought up in the Catholic religion and in a thoroughly American culture. She was 20 years old when Paramhansa Yogananda came into her world.
When he first came on the stage at the Masonic Lodge in downtown Seattle, Mother could feel something shift in her consciousness. Later when he looked into her eyes her whole body and mind were shaken. This experience changed her religious and spiritual perspective, presenting a new way of understanding God and a new way of living in this world. That same day she signed up for lessons from this great yoga master. This became a new birth for her, a new birth in Spirit.
